Reading/ ELA
Our phonics skills for this month are beginning and ending blends, and multisyllabic words. In reading our key comprehension strategies are main ideas, inferences and synthesize. As we practice our decoding skills and fluency we focus in on our comprehension strategies.
The themes in reading are Good Citizens, Rights and Responsibilities and animals and their homes. We will focus on verbs, adjectives and contractions in the month of May.
Our writing will concentrate on biographies and reports.
Math
Our math concepts for this month are fractions, length and measurement, and time. We continue to reinforce counting by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s and practice our basic addition and subtraction math facts.
Your child will continue to come home with a homework folder from my class nightly on Monday through Friday. Please make sure your child completes the homework and returns it the next day. There will be no homework on Fridays. On Friday your child will bring home their Friday Folder with all the work they have done during the week. Please take out all papers and sign the inside of the folder and return it with your child on Monday.
